Last week I spoke about the importance of water in the body and
how essential it is for survival. So we all drink (or at least think to drink)
some amount of water every day - some more than others. How many times have you
stopped and questioned, “what exactly is in this clear liquid that is
so essential to my health?"
Often times, we
turn towards "healthy alternatives" such as bottled water and or
filtered water which takes the place of the tap. But, contrary to popular
belief, the so called clean drinking water alternatives can very well be just
as bad as or even worse than tap water.
So let’s focus our
attention on Bottled water. So many people in the world today buy bottled water
because it is deemed as a clean drinking water source that people can trust. A
once free natural resource that all could partake in has transformed into a
multi-billion dollar industry because of the $3.99 + crv that we pay for
bottled water at our local grocery store. Bottled water is purchased
on faith rather than facts and so many of us believe in the misconception that
bottled water is the best way to cleaner drinking water – WRONG!!!...
Truth be told,
bottled water is actually less regulated than tap water. Billions of bottles of
water are consumed every week. Kudos to the populous for drinking the water and
staying hydrated but then here is the real questions, " where are those
bottles going and better yet, how did the water end up in the spherical plastic
compartments in the first place?" Now I could go into the whole process of how
plastic water bottles are made and what happens before they are shrink wrapped
in cases of 6, 12, or 24, but It’s a lot more interesting and exciting when you
do the research for yourself.
When I say bottled water is purchased on faith rather than facts
essentially what I mean is that there is only a small percentage of people who know
what contaminants bottled water actually removes – there is more than just
chlorine in your water. Studies show
that more than 30% of all bottled water is nothing more that repackaged tap
water. So that nice cold 1liter bottle of water that you just picked up from
the grocery store for $1.50 could very well be the exact same municipal water
that you get from your faucet with a few additives to make it somewhat
palatable.
So what can you do? There are so many other environmental and
health concerns associated with bottled water that we just don’t know about. The
bottled water industry spends billions of dollars each year to make sure that the
right appealing propaganda is going out to consumers and consequently, we
listen. But if you do your research, you’ll find that there is a solution. The best
alternative to cleaner, cheaper, and safer (based on the facts and research) drinking
water is a water filter. But be cautious about the filter you purchase…Next
